Patrolman Charles Crankshaw was shot and killed when he and another officer attempted to search a subject suspected of carrying a concealed weapon in a store. When the officers attempted to stop the subject the subject drew a gun and fired, striking Crankshaw three times.
The suspect was shot and wounded before fleeing the scene. He was arrested when he went to the hospital for treatment.
Patrolman Crankshaw had served with the Atlanta Police Department for four years. He was survived by his wife.
