Bio: David Baldwin was born in St. Louis, Mo., the second of three children. He was a curious child who enjoyed taking things apart and putting them back together, and who loved to hunt and play board games.
His feelings about fishing were more mixed. While he enjoyed catching and eating fish, he wasn't crazy about the act of fishing, a sport that was slower than he enjoyed.
As a small boy, he routinely lifted small items from convenience stores, and once, he and his brother, Bob, stole a package of matches from a store and brought them onto school property. They lit a few, watching each one flare, and then decided to bundle the rest and light them all together. Baldwin later told his father about the incident, and he grounded the brothers and made them apologize to the merchant.
Dave was married in 1990. After his wife, Stephanie, contracted cancer, Baldwin learned to care for her in the three years before she died.
He met his second wife, Crystal, 51, through an online dating site. They married in 2006 and went on a kayaking trip on their honeymoon.
Crystal Baldwin remembered her husband as a man with a deep sense of humor who loved and celebrated life.
David Baldwin started his career in 1987 and was promoted to the rank of sergeant in 1996. He worked varying assignments such as Detentions Division, Civil & Fugitive Unit, Bomb Squad, Patrol Division with the most recent in the traffic/motorcycle unit.
He also served as a firearms instructor, driving instructor, and instructor for the Basic and Advanced Law Enforcement Motorcycle School.
Dave was a US Air Force veteran.

|
Disposition: |
On August 29th, the perp who killed Sgt Baldwin, Kenneth Hosch, 83, pled guilty and begged for leniency. His driving record for the previous 20 years contained numerous infractions and accidents, indicating a mental decline that comes normally with age, which he chose to ignore.
In the end, the Judge chose to ignore his pleas for leniency and was sentenced to 6 years confinement in Community Corrections. Hosch will serve his sentence outside of jail or prison, but in a locked and secure facility.
He will only be allowed to leave that community corrections facility as part of a program where he will be talking about the dangers of driving after a certain age. |
